It’s taken a while, but the Fencing Officials Commission has a new look! The website has not had a complete overhaul in many years, and we are hoping that this new platform will provide United States fencing referees with a central place to find up-to-date information about current issues and rules interpretations.
Take a look around, and let us know what you think of the new site. This is a bit of a learn-as-we-go project, and is maintained entirely by the FOC, so if the website doesn’t display properly, or if there is information/features/content that you would like to see, send a quick email to omar.bhutta@fencingofficials.org.
At the moment much of the content is just rolled over from the old website, but we hope to be updating more frequently now that we have a more responsive platform.  You can subscribe by signing up in the box to the right.  For those who are interested, the site is now powered by WordPress.
We also will soon have a new Facebook page and Twitter feed for those who prefer the social media route! Follow us to make sure you hear the latest info as it’s posted.

Referee Recertification Suspended

At the beginning of this season, the Fencing Officials Commission announced that all referees would be required to pass a recertification exam by July 31st, 2013 in order to maintain their ratings. After reviewing the current recertification process and listening to feedback from the fencing community, we have decided to suspend recertification for the current season.
The goals of recertification are to ensure that active referees are knowledgeable about current international applications of the rules, and since rules change frequently there will be ongoing requirements to demonstrate knowledge of the rules. As we re-examine the process of re certification, we will be working to ensure that the end result does not unreasonably burden the referees, financially or otherwise.  We hope to have a new process identified by August.
We would like to thank the many referees who have already taken the recertification exam, and will be refunding the money that they spent taking the exam.  We are actively working with the National Office to determine the timeline for this, and ask for your patience in refunding this money. We will post updates as they are available.
